I watched Hud last night. Man, Hud was a bastard. Great character. I love all the characters in the movie. I’d just caught the last half of Breakfast at Tiffany’s prior to watching Hud and Patricia Neal is in both films; she is always awesome. I love Hud’s bedroom with the massive bull horns on the wall.
I watched this last night… it made me cry. Very sweet.
young at heart cover sonic youth’s schizophrenia. this is too weird. (courtesy of my friend, Gage)
First Person Magazine not only has a blog filled with juicy tid-bits of the best art/life culture recommendations & nudges, but now FPMag has First Person video blog! FP will park super cool videos culled from the nether regions of the interweb. Expect goodness. If you are a tumblr friend I recommend following the new video blog… if you are outside tumblr add to your favorite feed. xo
Note to nosafeplace on tumblr:
Cutemess & FPMag think you are cool too. One of our favorite tumblr friends & posters. I’m sure we’ve been in the same room before and didn’t know it! Follow nosafeplace on tumblr if you don’t already! Highly recommended.

My crappy iphone pic of Sonic Youth from my perch backstage (thank you to the Sic Alps, who sounded awesome with a huge sound system btw, for making that happen). I’d taken the time to get to know the new SY album, The Eternal, enough that I enjoyed hearing it live. I’ve been reading people on the internet complain about not hearing enough old stuff but I hope that the experience gave them enough satisfaction to shut up now. It’s classic SY sound/style and it sounded superb live. I was stoked to hear Shadow of a Doubt for one of the two encores, as I had hoped. I didn’t get to meet Kim, she seemed as stoic (not in a bad way) as I felt, but I did manage to awkwardly shake Thurston’s hand. I’ve never had any desire to “get backstage” for any bigger band that I admire, but having the opportunity to do it for the band that floored me, in a way that no other band had the first time I saw the Teenage Riot music video (remember those?) 22 years ago, was AWESOME.
